What Matters Most

Quality Criteria of a Sport Horse

A good sport horse combines physical aptitude with the right character. In horse brokerage, I focus on the following key criteria:

Basic Gaits & Movement Quality

Rhythm, impulsion, and elasticity in all three basic gaits form the foundation of every equestrian discipline. I assess natural movement quality as well as the potential for the intended purpose.

Health & Conformation

A correct foundation, healthy joints, and a suitable build for the intended use are essential. I pay attention to sound structures and a strong overall constitution.

Character & Rideability

Even the best talent is of little value without the right character. Willingness to work, mental strength, and a cooperative attitude toward the rider are just as important to me as athletic ability.

Training Level & Potential

Whether fully trained or a talented young prospect – I assess the current training level realistically and evaluate the horse’s future development potential.

Tips for Buying a Horse

What You Should Pay Attention To

Pre-Purchase Examination (PPE)

A veterinary pre-purchase examination is essential and an important investment in the safety of your purchase. It includes a clinical exam, X-rays, and, if necessary, further diagnostic procedures. I always recommend a "full PPE" with X-rays of the relevant joints.

Suitable Horse for Rider and Intended Use

Not every good horse is automatically the right horse. Make sure that the horse’s training level, temperament, and age match your own abilities and goals. A horse should not only appeal to you but also be a long-term fit for rider, purpose, and management.

Purchase Contract

A written purchase contract is mandatory. It should include all important details: purchase price, health status, known defects, warranty, and terms of transfer. I recommend having the contract reviewed by a lawyer specializing in equine law.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ on Horse Brokerage

01How does horse brokerage with JSF International work?

The process begins with a personal initial consultation, where we discuss your wishes and requirements. I then search my network for suitable horses, present you with a preselection, and support you through viewings, trial rides, the pre-purchase examination, and the purchase process.

02What does horse brokerage cost?

My brokerage fee is success-based – you only pay once you have found your horse. The exact commission is discussed transparently during the initial consultation. The first consultation is, of course, free of charge.

03How long does it take to find a suitable horse?

This depends on your requirements. In general, the search takes between 4 and 12 weeks. For very specific criteria, it may take longer – quality always comes before speed.

04Do you also work internationally?

Yes, I brokerage horses across Europe. Thanks to my international network, I have access to top horses in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and other European countries.

05Which disciplines do you cover?

My focus is on dressage and show jumping horses. I brokerage horses from beginner level up to Grand Prix. Versatile sport horses and ambitious leisure horses are also part of my portfolio.

06Do I need a pre-purchase examination?

I generally recommend a veterinary pre-purchase examination (PPE). This includes a clinical examination and X-rays of the most important joints. The PPE provides security regarding the horse’s health status.

07What happens if I have problems after the purchase?

I will not leave you alone after the purchase. I remain your contact for questions regarding settling in, training, or other matters. Good horse brokerage does not end with the purchase contract.
